This presentation analyzes potato production systems in Uruguay, with a focus on the role and adoption of nationally bred potato varieties. It reviews production contexts, seed systems, varietal composition, and key bottlenecks limiting the scaling of improved local varieties. The document highlights strategies to strengthen seed multiplication, improve access to quality seed for family farmers, and increase the participation of national varieties in both fresh and emerging differentiated markets, contributing to more resilient and competitive potato agri-food systems.
