Resumen

Descripción

This handbook constitutes the core technical reference of the Farm Business School Forward (FBS Forward) capacity development package, presenting the conceptual framework, principles and methodological guidance underpinning its implementation. The Farm Business School Forward (FBS Forward) is a comprehensive capacity development package designed to equip small-scale farmers with the skills needed to manage their farm more profitably and sustainably in today’s food system. FBS Forward integrates core principles of farm business management with a focus on inclusivity, innovation, and collective action to foster resilience and growth. FBS Forward is ideal for projects aimed at enhancing farmers' entrepreneurial and management skills. The field sessions can be rolled out over three months or a whole production cycle, with facilitators undergoing 2–3 weeks of preparatory training (online and with handbook exercises). FBS Forward uses an interactive, participatory approach. Each session starts with a story of a fictional farmer, addressing a key topic. Participants then discuss the story, sharing experiences before completing relevant exercises from the package. These stories feature diverse characters (including women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples or minority groups) to foster inclusive discussions on gender equality, collective action, and the use of digital tools where appropriate.
