The document is the first draft of a work on the impact of the structural adjustment process on the agricultural sector in Jamaica. The table of contents refers to: 1) background of the Jamaican economy and agriculture development; 2) agricultural baseline; 3) structural adjustment policy in the 1980s that has served to rationalize the economy-wide incentive system; reduce the extent of regulation and the size of the public sector in the economy; increase domestic savings and restore medium-term viability to the balance of payments; 4)agricultural policy reform in the 1980s, with several important sectoral policy reforms formulated to alter the incentive structure in the sector; 5) the agricultural sector response; and 6) evaluation and recommendations.
