The buffalo constitutes an important dairy animal in Pará State. However, the mortality rates among suckling buffalo calves, particularly at first months of age, is a seriom; problem in this State. Besides causing heayy financial 10ilses it reduceil considerably the scope for selection ofbreeding animals and building up of desired type of herds. No much information is available on buffalo calf mortality.
