Resumen

Descripción

In May 2020, Mongolia introduced its Vision 2050 to steer the country’s development for the next 30 years, emphasizing food and agriculture as a key economic sector. The plan aims to make this sector highly productive, climate resilient, and socially responsive, ensuring food security and better nutrition. Green technology and digitization will be pivotal across various industries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture, which contributed 10.9 percent to Mongolia's GDP in 2021, with animal husbandry making up 84.5 percent of this, remains crucial for economic and social development. The sector employs about 30 percent of the workforce and significantly influences export earnings. Despite progress, social inclusion challenges persist, exacerbated by COVID-19 and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which affects trade and import dependencies. The President of Mongolia has prioritized national food security, urging increased domestic production and reduced import reliance.
