In 2007 an in depth evaluation of two agricultural statistics databases in Mozambique was carried out by FAO and other consultants in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( The evaluation determined that there were inconsistencies in the data between the two systems, which caused a duplication of efforts and confusion on the part of users The first database that was evaluated consisted of statistical information obtained through a post harvest probability sample survey known as Trabalho de Inquérito Agrícola ( Despite the fact that the TIA uses a universally accepted methodology, it was deemed problematic because the results were not made available in a timely fashion The second and more timely source was the Aviso Prévio (Early Warning System), which generated data on crop production forecasts estimated through non probability sample surveys These two sources were found to contain data that was not always aligned, complicating planning and evaluation practices, as well as decision making.
