dc.descriptionThe document explains that in 1991, the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNIRD) and IICA made the decision to execute some joint activities in order to more effectively contribute to the rural development process throughout the region. This integration of efforts makes a lot of sense, both technically and economically. The document addresses while CNIRD has established working relations with NGOs throughout the region, IICA has close working relations with the respective government organisations. While CNIRD supports many non-agricultural organisations, IICA works mainly with farmers organisations. Whereas IICA has established offices in nearly all the CARICOM states, CNIRD has close working relations with the University of the West Indies and its established network. Whereas both organisations have limited resources, together they have linkages to a wide variety of NGO, national, regional and international support organisations. The document refers to the workshop objectives, methodology and target beneficiaries, etc. Continuously, it highlights two presentations and they responses: 1) rural development lessons and dilemmas from the LAC experience, and 2) a systems approach for strengthening rural organisations. Then, work group reports, workshop results and evaluation of workshop. Finally, it is included four annexes: 1) list of registered participants, 2) workshopo presentations opening ceremony, 3) workshop papers, presentations and responses, and 4) an overview: rural development in the Caribbean.
