The research paper seeks to explore and understand the direct and indirect linkages between forest resources and livelihoods (focusing on water stress) of forest-fringe communities especially in the Central Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. The paper analyses primary data of over 41435 households across around 687 Van Panchayats to examine the factors causing forest degradation and its impact on socio-economic and livelihood outcomes.
