The 2030 Agenda envisages a future in which no one is left behind. Achieving gender equality and empowering women is an absolute precondition to break the cycle of poverty and hunger, and to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This transformational vision of the 2030 Agenda calls for a political and institutional shift towards gender equality. The High-Level Event “Step It Up Together with Rural Women to End Hunger and Poverty” will offer an interactive platform for Members, UN entities, the international community, civil society and other stakeholders to address the structural causes and consequences of gender inequality in rural areas. It will also provide the opportunity to identify the main challenges, gaps, opportunities and collaborative actions for unleashing the potential of rural women and girls to end food insecurity, malnutrition and poverty.
