Elizabeth Swai, chief executive officer at AKM Gliters Company Limited in Tanzania, describes the social norms that hinder women’s ability to adopt and venture into certain leadership positions. In her case, she lost not only her friends but her marriage as well, since her husband did not believe in the viability of the business she was venturing into.
