Resumen
Descripción
Natural and artificial selection leave footprints on the genome, known as selection signatures, which can indicate regions related to economically important traits, including fertility. In the dairy industry, the Dairy Gir cattle is important for milk production in tropical regions, particularly in Brazil, where it is also extensively used in crossbreeding with Holstein to produce the Girolando breed—currently the most important dairy cattle in the country due to its high productivity and adaptability to tropical climates. Since the establishment of the Brazilian Dairy Gir Breeding Program (PNMGL) in 1985, the Dairy Gir population has undergone intensive selection for increased milk yield. This study aimed to detect and characterize selection signatures on the X chromosome of Dairy Gir cattle.
