| dc.description | The Cook Islands accounts for 0.01 percent of world taro exports and was ranked 36th among exporters in 2023. High freight costs due to geographical remoteness constrain exports, which go only to New Zealand. A lack of national food standards to regulate export quality, together with limited awareness and training on non-tariff trade barriers, also hinders exports. Strategic investments in infrastructure, standardization and international technical assistance can help boost and diversify taro exports by the Cook Islands. | |
