| dc.description | Maize prices registered high volatility in recent months showing unseasonal increases at the end of 2011 followed by declines in January/February. However prices are at high levels compared to international and previous year prices. An estimated 3.75 million people are considered food insecure, particularly in those areas that faced extensive drought conditions in 2011. Kenya is hosting a huge influx of Somali refugees who are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. The government is un dertaking measures to regulate prices and build food reserves. Safety nets, are also in place. | |
