The Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (known as Beijing Expo 2019) was the largest horticulture exhibition of its kind in the world, attracting exhibitors from 110 countries and international organizations. It attracted 9.34 million visitors from China and abroad during its 162-day run. With a theme of “Live Green, Live Better”, the Expo was positioned high up on the agenda of both central government and the Beijing Municipal Government, as 2019 was the year not only of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, but also of the second Belt and Road Forum. FAO was invited to participate in the indoor exhibition at the Expo, as per the official letter of invitation addressed to the office of the Director-General in August 2018. Following communication with the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, a booth of 200 square metres was reserved for FAO in the International Pavilion.
