The project was designed to address the critical need for strengthened national and regional capacity to access Global Environment Facility (GEF) funding under the eight replenishment cycle (GEF-8), a priority clearly identified by beneficiary governments. The Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project proved instrumental in supporting countries to develop technically sound, strategically aligned proposals and to expand their engagement with GEF windows. The TCP contributed directly to priorities identified in national strategies, CPFs, and regional FAO programming. By enabling the design of projects aligned with environmental sustainability, food systems transformation, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and water resource management, the project supported national commitments under the SDGs and environmental conventions. The alignment with CPF outcomes was consistent with what was foreseen at formulation, contributing to enhanced access to global environmental finance and strengthening FAO’s role as a key partner in GEF programming across the region.
