| dc.description | This study examines the agricultural and institutional determinants of malaria in Azerbaijan during the period of 1998-2000 and suggests a control strategy to avoid future outbreaks. Regression method and geographical maps are used to identify significant policy variables for designing and implementing malaria control strategies. Lastly, a framework is introduced to identify the areas where and how agricultural research can contribute to the fight against malaria. The empirical analysis suggests that irrigation water use, soil salinity, and the current status (structural and institutional) of the former state-owned farms significantly contribute to the resurgence of malaria in Azerbaijan. Having identified these factors, the next step is to bring together the relevant government bodies and private organizations for a cross-sector cooperation. And guidelines and frameworks should be introduced to promote the development of rules and regulations that govern this cooperation. | |
