The factsheet presents the Common Oceans Program Global Coordination Project, which promotes collective action among governments, organizations, and the private sector to ensure that the areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) are managed responsibly, including by engaging the private sector in more sustainable ocean businesses. The Global Coordination Project coordinates activities among partners, particularly in areas such as governance, innovation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. Upscaling good practices, including the ecosystem approach and harvest strategies, while promoting ocean governance, climate change adaptation and fisheries monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS), it aims to make a lasting impact on the health of our oceans. In collaboration with Conservation International (CI) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF US), the project aims to attract more private sector investment in the sustainable use of ocean resources. Examples include CI’s work with Fiji’s tuna industry to strengthen governance and sustainability, and WWF US’s virtual platform that connects businesses with biodiversity-friendly financing opportunities.
