Genetic diversity provides the fundmental basis for the evolution of forest species and for their adaptation to change. Conserving forest genetic resources (FGR) is therefore vital as they constitute a unique and irreplacable resource for the future. Central Asia is the center of endemism of many important tree species including horticultural crops, which justify that urgent actions are underkaten to support the conservation, sustainable use and management of their genetic resources.
