The study was carried out in Brachiaria humidicola and B. brizanta pastures maiuly under Oxisoils in six milk fanns of Castanhal region. Thirty soil samples were taken in eaeh of the three slope levels of eaeh paddock (Iow, medium and high, varying from O to 15 '%.), at 0-20 em depth. For eaeh three sai I samples, one of forage was taken. The slope did not affect the soil and pasture characteristics, although farm differences were observed. P and K soil levels were vcry low. To improve pastures, it is necessary to add those nutrients to the soil.
