The annual Joint Meeting of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the World Health Organization (WHO) Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues (JMPR) was held at WHO headquarters in Geneva from 20 to 22 January 2026. The WHO Core Assessment Group met in a preparatory session from 16 to 25 September 2025 in Bangkok, while FAO Panel members met in preparatory sessions from 24 November to 3 December 2025 in Rome.The Meeting was held pursuant to recommendations made at previous Meetings and endorsed by the governing bodies of FAO and WHO, calling for joint expert studies to evaluate potential hazards to humans arising from pesticide residues in food. During the Meeting, the FAO Panel of Experts reviewed pesticide use patterns based on good agricultural practices, data on pesticide chemistry and composition, and methods for the analysis of pesticide residues, and estimated the maximum residue levels that might occur as a result of pesticide use in accordance with good agricultural practices. The WHO Core Assessment Group reviewed toxicological and related data and, where possible and appropriate, established acceptable daily intakes (ADIs) and acute reference doses (ARfDs) for pesticides.This report contains information on ADIs, ARfDs, maximum residue levels and general principles for the evaluation of pesticides. The recommendations of the Joint Meeting, including further research and information needs, are intended for use by FAO and WHO Member Governments and other interested parties.
