Resumen

Descripción

Crafts and cottage industries can provide a source of sustainable employment in rural communities. For centuries the Central Asian region has been known for its attractive craft products, such as hand woven carpets, wooden carvings, metal works, textiles, and many other. However, a number of problems still hamper the further development of this sector. The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia supported a study to review the rural crafts sector in three countries of the Central Asian region (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) and proposed policy recommendations. To implement the recommendations of the study, the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia initiated a pilot project, jointly with the Central Asian Crafts Support Association's Resource Center in Kyrgyzstan public foundation (CACSARC-kg), and organized and conducted four 10-day trainings for rural women in two remote areas of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in 2017 - 2018. This catalogue presents the resulting products of these trainings.
