dc.descriptionEl objetivo del presente estudio fue estudiar las características de calidad y la incidencia de roya y ojo de gallo en 24 genotipos de café (Coffea arabica) bajo tres condiciones ambientales en Panamá. Estos genotipos fueron seleccionados de la colección de café del CATIE; en su mayoría son materiales silvestres y no se conoce mucho de sus características de calidad y su susceptibilidad a enfermedades. Para el estudio, se utilizó el genotipo Geisha como patrón de comparación en las parcelas con mayor altitud y el Catuai a menor altitud. Los resultados no revelaron un patrón consistente de variación con el ambiente para todos los genotipos, sino había una interacción significativa entre genotipo y ambiente. Las recomendaciones principales son; estudiar el comportamiento de calidad de los genotipos E5 y E6 en altitudes inferiores a 1000 MONnm y bajo diferentes condiciones edáficas y ambientales. The objective of the present investigation was to study the quality characteristics and the incidence of the leaf rust and the American leaf spot diseases in 24 genotypes of coffee (Coffea arabica) under three environmental conditions in Panama. These genotypes were selected from the coffee collection at CATIE; most of them are wild materials with little information on their quality characteristics and their susceptibility to the mentioned diseases. The study used the genotype Geisha the standard for the comparisons at the higher elevation sites and Catuai at lower altitudes. The results did not reveal a consistent pattern for all genotypes, as illustrated by the interaction between genotype and environment. The main recommendations are; to study the behavior of the genotypes as E5 and E6 at altitudes below 1000 m and under different soil and environment conditions.
