| dc.description | The project was designed to increase the livelihoods of coastal communities in Sri Lanka through improved technology-based farming innovations, product processing, and good practices in the cultivation of sea cucumber. In terms of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project interventions have made a significant contribution towards the achievement of several SDGs by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for fisher communities. Sea cucumber, being a high-value species, has enhanced the economic resilience of these communities. Furthermore, the active participation of both men and women in farming, processing and hatchery operations reflects the project's alignment with SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Additionally, the implementation of a community-based sea cucumber ranching programme has contributed to the conservation and replenishment of sea cucumber populations, supporting SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by promoting sustainable management of marine resources. | |
