El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo general la identificación de estrategias de manejo diversificado y actividades comerciales que pudieran generar mayores ingresos locales a partir de los bienes y servicios directos que ofrece el Bosque Toncontín, Honduras. Los bienes directos que fueron evaluados fueron la Producción y transformación de madera y las especies no maderables: Euterpe precatoria, Brahea dulcis, Machaerium cirrhiferum, Smilax spinosa, Alsophila sp. y orquídeas. Los servicios ambientales considerados en el estudio fueron el ecoturismo como una actividad comercial de alto potencial en la zona, y la función ecológica de regulación hídrica.
The general objective of this work was to identify strategies for the diversified management and corresponding commercial activities that could potentially generate higher local revenues from goods and services generated by the Communal Toncontin Forest located in Northern Honduras. The direct goods evaluated included wood -- with and without secondary processing -- and products from the following non-timber species: Euterpe precatoria, Brahea dulcis, Machaerium cirrhiferum, Smilax spinosa, Alsophila sp. and orchids. The environmental services considered were ecotourism -- a commercial activity of high potential in the region -- and the regulation of the hydrological cycle in the micro watersheds protected by the Toncontin forest.
