Descripción
Climate change and human mobility are complex, intertwined processes. Climate variability and change pose risks to livelihoods, health and assets that increase vulnerability and, in turn, influence migration. Climate challenges are fuelling migration in many parts of the world. At the same time, however, migration can play a significant role in climate-change resilience strategies and help boost the adaptive capacity of rural communities through the investment of remittances and diaspora engagement. FAO’s initiative will take a holistic approach to tackling the challenges and opportunities of the environment‒migration nexus. It aims to mitigate some of the adverse drivers of environmental migration, while harnessing its potential when it comes to climate-change adaptation in rural areas and promoting policy coherence in areas of migration and climate change.
