This report, in its main body and appendixes, provides an overview of the state of fisheries and aquaculture in the Euphrates–Tigris Basin, including country-level overviews for Iraq, the Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey, as well as the summary record of an expert meeting held in Erbil, Iraq, in 2012, and the outcomes. A list of species for the Euphrates–Tigris Basin is also included. The expert meeting on the review of fisheries and aquaculture activities in the Euphrates–Tigris Basin was the fi rst to purposely address, at the regional level, the sustainable management and development of capture fisheries and aquaculture in the Euphrates–Tigris Basin. A regional cooperation framework was agreed upon. This framework focuses on: resource sustainability; a comprehensive management plan, as well participatory co-management involving resource users and stakeholders; and the promotion and establishment of regional technical cooperation and dialogue with the purpose of establishing regionally harmonized fisheries and aquaculture management plans and actions.
