The Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2024–2028 sets out four priority areas to facilitate FAO’s partnership with and support to the Government of the Gambia for transforming agrifood systems by applying innovative international best practices and global standards, along with national and regional expertise, and providing the required technical assistance. These are: (1) Strengthening resilience and capacities for disaster risk reduction and management; (2) Enhancing disaster risk reduction and management service provision for climate change adaptation and mitigation; (3) Economic empowerment of actors in agriculture and natural resources (ANR) value chains, particularly women and youth; and (4) Strengthening ANR value chains for inclusive and sustainable growth. The CPF will support the Government of the Gambia’s efforts to make agriculture more productive, resilient, and sustainable while ensuring that women and young people are empowered across the agrifood value chain. The CPF 2024–2028 has been developed taking into account major challenges identified in transforming the Gambia’s agrifood systems, government policies and priorities. This has been done through extensive consultations with national stakeholders, particularly Government line ministries, civil society, the private sector and development partners as well as relevant UN agencies, including the Rome-based Agencies. The CPF is also aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–31, as well as the Organization’s regional priorities for Africa, the Subregional Office for West Africa, and its corporate initiatives such as the Hand-in-Hand Initiative (HIHI), One Country One Priority Product (OCOP), and the Digital Village Initiative (DVI). The CPF 2024–2028 is designed as a living document and can be updated to respond to changes in government priorities and unfolding situations.
