More than 500 participants attended the FAO/OIE Global Conference on Foot and Mouth Disease held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 27 to 29 June 2012, including Chief Veterinary Officers from more than 100 countries, representatives of international and regional organisations, donor agencies, non-governmental organisations, the pharmaceutical industry and agricultural producer organisations. Ministers and other decision-makers also took part. The proceedings of this conference contain all of the oral p resentations and poster summaries on a vast variety of technical and scientific issues, in addition to a presentation of the Global Foot and Mouth Disease Control Strategy, the tools and methods that it will employ and the gaps and needs that should be addressed to achieve sustainable progress.
