This legislative study was undertaken as part of FAO's commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December 1998. It contains a selection of extracts from the various binding and non-binding international and regional instruments considered to be of greatest relevance for the right to adequate food. These include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the international human rights covenants (the UN Bill of Rights), declarations and plans of action of the world conferences of the 1990s, and various declarations and resolutions of intergovernmental international and regional fora. It also contains extracts of various authoritative texts that clarify the rights related to food, in connection with the drafting or implementation of the above-mentioned instruments.
