The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the status and nature of climate finance investments in the livestock sector across the continent and identify opportunities (short, medium and long term) for the LiveSys project to engage with African Union Member States on capacity building to strengthen their ability to access climate finance for the livestock sector and/or to support specific proposal development processes. This report was produced as part of the Programme ‘Catalysing transformation towards sustainable livestock systems (LiveSys) (2024-2028)’ commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Further information can be found under https://www.giz.de/en/projects/gvcatalyzing-transformation-towards-sustainable-livestock-systems The Livestock, Climate and Environment (LCE) research program at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) collaborated with GIZ to produce this report. The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works for better lives, better planet through livestock in developing countries. ILRI is a CGIAR research center. CGIAR research is supported by contributions to the CGIAR Trust Fund. CGIAR is a global research partnership for a food-secure future dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis.
