Atotalof23caninepatientswereadmittedintheUniversityVeterinaryPoliclinicfrombetween1993and1998withhipproblems.Allthesepatientswereclinically,hematologicallyandradiologicallyevaluatedandthearthroplasticexcisionofthefemoralheadandneckwasperformed.Themostimportantclinicalsignswere:lameness(71.48%)andpaininpalpationoftheaffectedlimb(35.71%).Thecausesofthefemoralproblemwereluxationofthecoxofemo-raljoint(69.56%),fractureofthefemoralhead(4.34%),hipdisplacia(13.04%),degenerativearthritis(8,69%)andLegg-Calves-Perthesdisease(4.34%).Fiftypercentofthepatientswerelessthanoneyearold.Themostaffectedbreedswerepoodles(30.43%),mongrels(26.08%),pekingeseandchow-chow(13.04%).52.17%werefemalesand47.83%weremales.Ofallpa-tients78.3%showednoclinicalsignsaftersurgeryatthemomentofclinicalevaluationand21.7%ofthepatientsshowedpostsurgicalsignsofdisease.Thetotalqualificationofpatientevaluationwas82.6%excellentand17.4%good.Keywords:Arthroplasticexcision,hip,femur,head,neck
