In 2024, IICA advanced sustainable transformation in Panama’s agrifood sector, focusing on rice production, bioeconomy, agricultural health, and rural development. Through the Rice NAMA Project, blockchain and satellite image analysis were introduced to enhance traceability and precision farming, reducing production costs by 35% and increasing productivity by 25% across 100 farms, with expansion planned for 7,000 hectares. New proposals in regenerative agriculture and livestock were formulated for rice, maize, coffee, and cattle. IICA led multi-stakeholder platforms on bioeconomy and digital agriculture, strengthening innovative value chains. In agricultural health, it consolidated a regional model for New World screwworm prevention. Under the AGROINNOVA project, five demonstration farms were established and 2,500 artificial insemination straws were produced. IICA also supported the implementation of Law 352 on national agrifood policy, built partnerships with the Panama Canal Authority, and delivered specialized training in international agricultural trade.
