NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) analysis is useful for wheat mapping and monitoring food security in Afghanistan, as it is a country that heavily relies on agriculture. In the framework of Afghanistan Emergency Food Security Project, an NDVI analysis throughout the growing season is conducted to assess wheat growth and potential yield. Sentinel-2 satellite data is used for NDVI analysis in Badakhshan province.1 Based on wheat mask produced for 2016-17, and considering the Afghanistan wheat calendar, preliminary analyses of wheat acreage and growth is conducted to set the basis for future wheat classification at national level.
