Descripción
Many governments have strengthened their commitment to achieving food and nutrition security and recognised the need to reconsider productivity and sustainability issues in agriculture. The fact remains, however, that 815 million people continue to suffer from chronic hunger and 736 million people live in extreme poverty. The Zero Hunger Facility builds on the work of the FAO/European Union (EU) Food and Nutrition Security Impact, Resilience, Sustainability and Transformation (FIRST) programme. Through a network of policy officers and technical experts based in national government institutions, FAO helps to create an enabling policy and institutional environment in which public- and private-sector investment can have a direct and tangible effect on achieving SDGs 1 and 2.
