dc.descriptionUsing data from the 2020 knowledge attitudes and practices survey which was conducted with financial support from the European Union-funded Afikepo nutrition sensitive agriculture project, this paper aimed to determine the relationship between household production of various food items and household dietary diversity and the factors associated with high household dietary diversity among household members by using the chi-square and logistic models. The paper concludes that households meeting the minimum dietary diversity remain low and varied by region within Malawi and that meeting the minimum dietary diversity significantly correlated with production of various food items such as ownership of livestock and backyard farming even after accounting for the other factors. The Afikepo nutrition sensitive agriculture project is being implemented by FAO and UNICEF in collaboration with the Government of Malawi, with the aim of increasing and diversifying dietary intake of safe and nutritious foods to achieve optimal nutrition for women of childbearing age, adolescent girls, infant and young children. It is being implemented in the 10 districts of Chitipa, Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhatabay, Nkhotakota, Salima, Kasungu, Chiradzulu, Thyolo and Mulanje in Malawi from July 2017 to December 2023.
