Descripción
The project “Promoting Efficient Irrigation and Water Productivity amongst Farmers” was implemented in Saudi Arabia by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the Saudi Irrigation Organization (SIO) and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA). The initiative aimed to promote the wider adoption of efficient irrigation technologies and improved irrigation practices among farmers, thereby contributing to the national goal of improving irrigation efficiency and ensuring the sustainable use of water resources in agriculture. The project supports national priorities under Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Water Strategy, which emphasize water conservation, improved water productivity, and sustainable agricultural development in the context of increasing water scarcity. This FAO knowledge product documents good practices and field-based case evidence generated under the project “Promoting Efficient Irrigation and Water Productivity amongst Farmers” implemented in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It synthesizes technical, institutional, economic, and capacity development lessons to inform replication and scaling of efficient irrigation solutions in water-scarce contexts.
