Potato is a high-value horticultural crop in Indonesia, but production is severely constrained by late blight, leading farmers to apply fungicides up to 20–30 times per season. This policy brief assesses the potential impact of a biotech 3R-gene Granola potato variety that incorporates three resistance genes to Phytophthora infestans. Results from field trials and an ex ante economic surplus analysis (DREAMpy) show that 3R-gene Granola provides very high resistance to late blight without fungicide application, stabilizes yields, and substantially reduces production costs. Under the baseline adoption scenario, the variety is projected to generate annual net benefits of IDR 254.74 billion (USD 17.15 million) and enable approximately 1,133 people to escape poverty each year. The brief highlights the importance of timely regulatory approval, effective extension, and strong seed systems to fully realize the economic, social, and environmental benefits of this innovation.
