Plant pest detection and pest identification are crucial for the appropriate application of phytosanitary measures that protect plant health. The International Plant Protection (IPPC) diagnostic protocols provide procedures and methods for the official diagnosis of regulated pests that are relevant for international trade. Diagnost protocols are developed by the IPPC and a team of diagnostic protocol authors made up of competent diagnoticians. Globally harmonized diagnostic protocols are not merely scientific publications but adopted international standards to which IPPC contracting parties have agreed.
