Descripción

Timor-Leste relies heavily on the agricultural sector, which employs about 70 percent of the population. However, irrigation coverage is still inadequate in Timor-Leste, and many farms still depend on rainfall for production, making the agricultural sector highly sensitive to erratic rainfall, recurrent droughts, and flooding. In August 2023, Timor-Leste's combined drought index (CDI) showed signs of drought, and drought alerts were issued for nearly all municipalities. Anticipatory interventions were implemented by FAO and government partners under the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) from September 2023 to April 2024. This report details the interventions implemented and assesses the impact of anticipatory action securing food and strengthening water access at the peak of the drought.
