Samoa holds a negligible share in global cocoa production and exports, ranking 145th among exporters in 2023. Samoa is a net importer of cocoa and cocoa preparations. The Samoan cocoa industry faces supply-side constraints in processing and quality control that hinder its ability to meet high domestic and export demand. There is increasing demand for Samoan Cocoa by gourmet chocolatiers in New Zealand and Australia, and Samoa can increase exports to these countries in light of their geographical proximity and lack of tariff barriers.
