Luego de un largo período de estancamiento en las negociaciones multilaterales de la Ronda de Doha, hecho que generaba incertidumbre sobre el futuro de la Organización
Mundial del Comercio (OMC), en su Novena Conferencia Ministerial los países miembros lograron acuerdos significativos que resaltan la pertinencia de ese foro multilateral, que se ha
visto amenazado por iniciativas parciales impulsadas especialmente por grupos de países, como el Acuerdo de Asociación Transpacífico (TPP, por sus siglas en inglés), que excluyen a los países que no están involucrados en ellas.
En esta nota se describen los temas generales
relativos a agricultura tratados en Bali. Los detalles técnicos sobre cada uno de ellos los daremos a conocer en notas posteriores.
A long period of stagnation in the multilateral negotiations of the Doha Round had raised doubts about the future of the (World Trade Organization) WTO. At the Bali conference, however, the member countries reached significant agreements that underscore the multilateral forum’s relevance, which had been threatened by partial initiatives, promoted especially by groups of countries, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), from which the countries not directly involved are excluded. This note describes the general issues related to agriculture addressed in Bali. Technical details of each one will be provided in subsequent notes.
