Resumen
Descripción
At present, more than 1300 ha potatoes are usually planted on a noncarbonated Loose Brown soil in Holguin where fertilization does not consider the edaphoclimatic characteristics of the locality. To manage this essential requirement, two experiments were carried out over 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 with N doses between 50 and 200 kg.ha-1. Plant height kept a positive linear relationship with applied N doses and plant growth was similar in both seasons studied, achieving the highest bulking, tuber weight, dry weight and yields with doses of 100 and 150 kg.ha-1 N, whereas potato N extraction was higher as the applied N dose increased. The optimal dose was 110 kg.ha-1, so that 45 % was reduced when compared to production dose. The highest starch content was obtained with 50 kg.ha-1 N and the greatest available N recovery coefficient in the medium was recorded with 100 kg.ha-1 N, which is very close to the optimal dose.
