The rapid advancement of digital technologies offers transformative potential for small- and medium-scale aquaculture across Africa, a region where aquaculture is rapidly developing and serves as a vital livelihood source and a means to ensure food security. This study explores the integration of digital tools such as mobile applications, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, data analytics and remote monitoring systems to enhance operational efficiency, resource management and market access within African aquaculture practices. Through a review of current technological applications and case studies, the research identifies key barriers to adoption, including infrastructural limitations, digital literacy gaps and economic constraints. The findings highlight how tailored digital solutions can optimize feed management, disease monitoring and environmental data collection, thereby reducing costs and increasing yields. Furthermore, the circular emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement, capacity building and policy support to foster sustainable digital transformation in the sector. Ultimately, the integration of digital technologies holds significant promise for empowering small- and medium-scale aquaculturists by providing guidelines towards implementing new solutions to meet their needs, promoting sustainable practices, and contributing to economic development and food security across Africa.
