Resumen
Descripción
The project gathered current and accurate information on the livestock subsector in Southern Africa subregion, producing livestock profiles for each participating country. Concise policy briefs targeting decision-makers and planners were produced and submitted to the SADC for further dissemination. At the time of reporting, significant progress had been made in publishing them in the FAO digital repository for further dissemination. Through the reports drafted during the project, all SADC countries were made aware of the challenges the sector faces, the potential for food security improvement and the opportunities to increase livelihoods and income at national and regional levels. In addition, updated information about the subsector contributed to outlining evidence-based plans to be implemented at country and regional levels. Recommendations on how to improve the livestock sector were clearly articulated and described in the policy briefs, which also included a list of prioritized areas requiring larger public and private investments. While the project did not focus on partnership building specifically, the reports sought to garner enhanced international support and the recommendations are intended to be included in other national, regional and international initiatives.
