Descripción
Governments and development agencies need timely, high-quality data for evidence-based policy decisions, particularly in the agricultural sector. However, many countries lack the necessary data systems to make informed decisions. Consequently, approximately USD 239 billion is invested annually in agriculture in low and lower-middle-income countries (L/LMICs) without reliable agricultural statistics, affecting over 800 million of the world's poorest people. Challenges faced by developing countries in producing and disseminating data in the agricultural and rural sectors include limited funding, human resources and technical capacity. Poor coordination between NSOs and relevant line ministries exacerbates these issues, leading to underutilized data and hindering the monitoring of SDGs. Contributing to the "50x2030 Initiative: Closing the Agricultural Data Gap", the subprogramme was designed to strengthen agricultural statistical systems in L/LMICs, enabling partner countries to produce and disseminate better and more timely agricultural data for the measurement of SDG 2 and SDG 5 indicators.
