| dc.description | Invasive plant species affect human health, agricultural and other systems, and their impacts are second only to habitat destruction in terms of loss of biodiversity. These concerns have generated growing international interest in quarantine legislation concerning weeds (see definitions, pp. 3-5) and in weed risk assessment systems to prevent the introduction of new pests and to prioritize existing pests for control. Weed risk assessment is a new discipline and the first international symposium was held only recently in Australia (Groves et al. 2001). | |
