Descripción

The nutritional situation in Latin America and the Caribbean is critical. The simultaneous presence of malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and overweight and obesity is common in several countries in the region. However, legislation on nutrition must be related to the numerous areas that involve nutrition, in addition to the needs of each country that need to be addressed, which will be different depending on its circumstances and causes of malnutrition. In this document, we will find an approach to the legislative strategies that act to improve nutrition, specifically: i) the international and regional legal framework of the Right to Food and adequate nutrition; ii) interventions to be taken by countries to improve the nutrition of their citizens; iii) the keys to legislate on nutrition, taking as examples regional and national legislation in Latin America and the Caribbean; and iv) the necessary parliamentary actions to promote legislative improvements to advance nutrition, and the example of the “Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean".
