This paper looks at the A.C. Nielsen Homescan panel data, the sampling procedure, some of the issues associated with its use, and presents an expenditure analysis of ready foods based on the panel data. Complex survey design techniques are used to produce population estimates and statistics since complex designs can create potential problems for ordinary estimation techniques.
