dc.descriptionPublic private partnerships (PPPs) are being promoted as an important institutional mechanism for gaining access to additional financial resources, sharing risks, and addressing other constraints in pursuit of sustainable and inclusive agricultural development. While various forms of collaboration between the public and private sector have existed for some time, there is limited systematic information available about the current experiences and best practice for using PPPs to initiate agricultu ral programmes. In 2010, FAO initiated a series of appraisals of PPPs implemented in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The primary objective was to draw lessons that can be used to provide guidance to member countries on how to partner effectively with the private sector in order to mobilize support for agribusiness development. The outcome of FAO appraisals is presented in this series of Country case studies as a contribution to enriching knowledge and sharing information on PPP s mechanisms for informed decision making on investment promotion for engendering agrifood sector development.
