Resumen

Descripción

This is the fifth volume of a best practice manual designed to guide users in sustainable and profitable management of the anchored fish aggregating device (FAD) fisheries subsector in the Caribbean. The present volume focuses on anchored FAD fisheries governance. In this manual, governance is defined as “the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented)”. This definition focuses attention on the actors concerned and their processes/arrangements in place to support decisions and their implementation. This volume provides guidance in addressing these four major areas of fisheries governance, with emphasis on identifying the actors and suitable processes/arrangements, considering the additional needs of the anchored FAD fisheries subsector and the typical governance structures of the wider Caribbean where most anchored FAD fishing takes place. Indeed, the four governance areas represent distinct elements of the overall framework required for good fisheries governance in general.
